Health Centers understand and respond to their communities' needs because they are community-based public/private partnerships. Each Health Center is a non-profit corporation, governed by a community-based board of directors, a majority of whose members are center patients. Improving Access . . . Health Centers provide care for individuals and families who other providers may not serve because of their cost and complex health needs. They serve Utah's rural/frontier residents, the working poor, and uninsured, as well as, vulnerable and high-risk populations (i.e., pregnant women, migrant farm workers, the homeless, the frail elderly, and persons with HIV/AIDS). Cost-Effective . . . Health Centers have a major impact on the health of their communities and provide high-quality care through a proven cost-effective model. National studies demonstrate health care costs for Health Center patients are on an average 30% lower than for other providers serving the same populations. Health Centers achieve significant savings by reducing the need for hospital admissions and costly emergency care. Accountable . . . Health Centers are held to and meet high standards of accountability and outcome measurements by the oversight of their locval boards of directors and the US Public Health Service. |
