You must set up a media collection using the media_collection table in the Table Editor.
To set up a media collection in the media_collection table
1 | Open the media_collection view in the Table Editor. |
Horizon opens the List Media Collection window.
2 | Click New. |
Horizon opens the Edit Media Collection window.
3 | Click Codes to the right of the Collection field. |
Horizon displays the Code Lookup Collection Codes window.
The Code Lookup Collection Codes window displays a list of all valid, existing collection codes and lets you add a new collection code or edit an existing collection code.
4 | Click Add. |
Horizon opens the Edit Collection Codes window:
5 | Complete these fields: |
In this field |
Do this |
||||||||||||
Enter a code to identify this collection. You decide what code to enter. The code can contain up to seven letters. |
|||||||||||||
Description |
Enter a description for this collection. For example, if you are creating a collection of specific media equipment items, you can enter Audio Visual Equipment as the code description. |
||||||||||||
Enter a description of the collection as you want it to appear in staff search windows and in PAC. This description is for staff use and should be unique for each group of materials shelved in the library. |
|||||||||||||
Enter a description of the collection as you want it to print on spine labels. |
|||||||||||||
Enter a call number type, or click Codes to choose from a list of types. The call number type determines the call number index used to index the collection. Horizon also uses this number to generate statistics for the collection by call number range. Call number types divide collections according to call numbers in order to generate statistics. For example, you could divide the reference collection into science, humanities, and political science groups to generate separate statistics for each of these groups. |
|||||||||||||
Enter the item statistical class for this collection, or click Codes to choose from a list of classes. When you assign an ISTAT to a collection code, that ISTAT is automatically assigned to items based on the collection code you enter in the holdings record. Horizon uses the ISTAT to generate statistics for the items to which it is assigned. |
|||||||||||||
If you want to include fast-added items in other indexes, mark this box. When a fast-add temporary bib record is created for an item, Horizon stores the title information in an unindexed tag, such as 249. Users cannot search for unindexed titles in PAC. |
|||||||||||||
If items in this collection can be fast-added, choose the process for checking in the items:

|
Enter the code for the set of serial labels and cards you want to assign to this collection, or Click Codes to choose from a list of sets. Note: If no serial labels apply to this collection, leave this field blank. |
|
Enter the code for the bin you want borrowers to use to return items they check in when using the 3M SelfCheck machine, or click Codes to choose from a list of bins. Note: If you do not use bins for self-check items or do not want to allow users to use a SelfCheck machine to check in media items, leave this field blank. |
|
Mark this box if you want checked-in items to “belong” to the location where they are returned instead of routing them back to their owning location. This option is available only if you are using Horizon 6.0 or later. For more information, search “setting up a floating collection” in the System Administration Guide. |
|
Leave this box marked default if you want to record misshelved items on the Report of Inventory Exceptions when you take inventory for this collection. This option applies only if you are using the Horizon Inventory module. |
8 | Save your changes. |
9 | Continue with Creating Search Options for the Media Collection. |
