Setting up the maximum number of items out per ITYPE group

You can specify the number of ITYPE items borrowers are allowed to check out at a given time by using Circulation Parameter 53, “Max. items out per itype group.” This parameter limits the number of ITYPE checkouts for a single user across the entire ITYPE group. For example, if you set up an exception to limit the borrower to five members of the Video group, then a borrower would not be allowed to check out more than five items that belong to the Video group (VHS, DVD, or Blue Ray) at the same time. If a borrower checked out three Blue Rays and two DVDs, they would be blocked when they attempted to check out a fourth Blue Ray.

If a borrower tries to check out more than the allowed number of items in an ITYPE group, you will be prompted that the maximum has been exceeded. Checking out any items past the maximum number will require an override.

To set up the maximum number of items per ITYPE group

1 Set Max. items out per itype group (circulation parameter 53).

For general instructions, see Setting Up or Editing a Circulation Parameter. Then use the remaining steps of this task to customize the parameter.

2 In the Value field, do one of these options:
If you want to allow borrowers to check out ITYPE items, enter the default maximum number of ITYPE items you want to allow a borrower to be able check out.
If you do not want borrowers to check out ITYPE items, enter “0” (zero).
3 If you want to create or edit any exceptions, do these steps in the Special Values group:
a Choose the exception that you want to change, or create a new exception.
b Enter or choose a code in one or more of the location, borrower type, or item type fields.
c In the Value field, enter a numerical value for the maximum number of checkouts allowed for the specified ITYPE group.

Note: The exception value set here overrides the default value for this parameter.

4 Save your changes.
