Each library location has a location record, which contains information such as the library’s name, address, and circulation guidelines. You may want to edit the location records for your current library locations to specify the first and last hours each day that borrowers can check out media-related items.
You may choose to set up an additional library location record especially for Media Scheduling. This can make it easier for users to identify media items as they search. If you choose to set up a separate media location, you should set up the location parameters to reflect your library’s circulation guidelines for media-related items. For example, because media items are reserved in advanced for a specific time, you may want to set up the Media Scheduling location’s circulation guidelines to ensure that borrowers return items before the library closes each night.
When you set up a new location, Horizon creates a location group that contains only that location code. You can also choose to create your own location groups that contain multiple location codes. This lets you apply circulation privileges and parameters to locations with similar circulation requirements. For more information on circulation groups, search “defining circulation privileges and parameters” in the Circulation Setup Guide.
1 | Open the Location view in the Table Editor. |
Horizon opens the List Location Parameters window.
2 | Choose the location for which you want to set up media information, or create a new location for only media items. |
3 | If you are creating a new location, complete the fields on the record, as necessary. |
For instructions, search “setting up a location record” in the System Administration Guide. Use the remaining steps in this task to complete the location setup for Media Scheduling.
4 | Display the Daily Hours group. |
Horizon displays the Daily Hours settings:
5 | Use the drop-down list to choose the day of the week for which you want to set up media scheduling hours. |
6 | Complete or update these fields: |
In this field |
Do this |
Enter the time at which borrowers can begin scheduling media items. You may want to leave some time between the hour that the location opens and the hour when borrowers can begin booking media items. This gives library staff time to check in previously circulated media items before the next day’s bookings take effect, and can help avoid conflicts in booking schedules. Be sure to mark the correct AM or PM option. |
|
Enter the last time at which borrowers can check out media items. This is the time just before closing after which the location’s policy does not allow checkout of hourly materials. Important: For items that have an hourly circulation period, marking the Take Overnight? hourlies box in the itype view overrides the time that you enter here. Be sure to mark the correct AM or PM option. |
7 | Repeat steps 5 and 6 for each day of the week that the library is open. |
8 | If you want to set up media scheduling circulation hours for holidays, do these steps: |
a | Display the Holidays group. |
b | Use the drop-down list to choose the holiday for which you want to set up media scheduling hours. |
c | In the First Booking field, enter the time at which borrowers can begin scheduling media items. |
d | In the Last Adv Booking CKO field, enter the last time at which borrowers can check out media items. |
9 | If you want to set a fixed or final due date for the media items at this location, do these steps (for more information about fixed and final due dates, search “fixed or final due date” in the Circulation Setup Guide: |
a | Display the Due Dates group. |
b | In the Item Type field, enter or choose the media ITYPE for which you want to set a fixed or final due date. |
c | In the After Date field, enter the date after which the due date should take effect. |
d | In the Due Date field, enter the due date that you want to use. |
This due date overrides default or excepted loan periods if items are checked out after the After Date.
If you want to set up the loan period for an indefinite or permanent loan, set the Fixed Due Date to an “artificial” date, such as 12/31/2050. Horizon recognizes this date as indefinite and displays it as such in Horizon and on receipts.
e | Do one of these options: |
• | If you want to make the due date fixed, mark the Fixed box. |
• | If you want to make the due date final, clear the Fixed box. |
10 | Save your changes. |
