Displaying the Number of Requests Placed per Item

You can display the number of requests that have been placed on a particular item. This lets your users see how many people are in the request queue for an item already, and can help them decide whether to wait for an item or to get it from another source. This also helps your library keep track of the demand for certain items so that you can adjust your holdings accordingly.

The number of requests placed on an item can display only on Full Bib or Summary List displays.

Here is an example of a Summary List display with the Requests element added:

To display the number of requests placed per item

1 Access the full bib or summary list display on which you want to view the number of requests per item, or add a new one. (For instructions, see Adding or Accessing a Search Result Display.)
2 Click Add New Element.

The Administration tool displays the Add Data Element page.

3 In the Label field, enter “Requests”.
4 In the Column Name field, enter “#REQUESTCOUNT#”.

Since Information Portal recognizes the pound signs ( # ) as a command telling it to display the request count, no table name is required.

5 Click OK.

The Administration tool displays the Edit Display page again.

6 Add this display to a result type, if it is not already added. (For more information, see Adding a Result Type“.)
7 When you finish making changes in Information Portal, restart the Application Server process (JBoss).
