Setting Up Internal IP Addresses

Your library may want to keep borrowers that are in the library from placing holds on items that are on the shelf. You can do this by distinguishing between internal and external IP addresses. When a borrower places a hold, Information Portal determines whether the request is coming from an external or internal IP address. If the borrower is placing the hold in-house (from an internal IP address), Information Portal denies the request.

To set up internal IP addresses

1 Access the profile you want to change, or add a new one.
2 Click the Internal IP Addresses option.

The Administration tool displays any internal IP addresses that you have set up:

1 Click Add New Internal IP Address.

The Administration tool displays the Add Internal IP Address page:

2 Complete these fields to add an internal IP address:
Description. Enter a description for the IP address.

This description is used only within the Administration tool.

Internal IP Address. Enter the IP address. See Entering Internal IP Addresses for more information.
Add to Profile(s). Mark Add to All to make this an internal IP address for all profiles, or mark the boxes for a specific profile to make this an internal IP address for that profile.
3 Click OK.

The Administration tool displays the Internal IP Addresses page.

Mark all the listed IP addresses as internal

1 Mark the box in the column heading.

Mark a single IP address as internal

1 Mark the boxes for the IP addresses that you want to be internal.
4 Do one of these options:
If you want to disallow internal holds for all the profiles in your library, mark the Disallow Internal Holds for Items Available in Library box.
If you want to disallow internal holds for a specific profile, see Choosing Profile Options.
5 Click OK.
6 When you finish making changes in Information Portal, restart the Application Server process (JBoss).
