Starting Firebird (Linux)

There are three Firebird processes: Firebird Service, Firebird Guardian, and Firebird Server. These processes start together automatically, but are independent of Application Server or XSL processes. If they are already running, you can stop and start the other processes without a problem. All three processes must be running before you start the XSL processor.

To start Firebird as a console application

1 Open a console session to your Application Server.
2 At the “#” prompt, enter this command:

cd /opt/firebird/bin

3 At the “#”prompt, enter this command:

./fbmgr -start

The Firebird process starts and the system displays a message like this one:

server has been successfully started

4 Leave this console session open and continue with Starting an XSL Processor (Linux).

To start Firebird as a Linux daemon

1 Open a console session to your Application Server.
2 At the “#” prompt, enter this command:

/etc/init.d/firebird start

The system displays a message like this one:

starting Firebird server

3 Continue with Starting an XSL Processor (Linux).
