Library staff can use staff searching to search for and request closed stack items that are physically unavailable or in a closed stack area. (For example, if a rare collection of watercolors is in a closed stack area, a staff member can make a request to view it.)
To request a closed stack item using staff searching
1 | Search for the closed stack item until Horizon displays the title in the Titles list, Bibliographic Detail window, or Copies window. (For instructions, see the “Searching” chapter of the Horizon Basics Guide.) |
The owning location of this particular bib record determines whether this item is located in the closed stacks.
2 | Choose Request, Make Request, or press F5. |
3 | If a borrower Search window displays, identify the borrower; otherwise, continue with step 4. (For instructions on identifying a borrower, see “Identifying a Borrower in Checkout” in the “Getting Started” chapter of the Circulation Guide.) |
If this location allows only hold requests, Horizon displays the Hold Request window; you will not be able to make a closed stack request. If this location allows regular hold requests and closed stack requests, you will be prompted to choose the kind of request you want to make.
If a bib record has items that are closed stack and non-closed stack (at any location within all the libraries, branches, and so forth), borrowers are told that they may check the shelves, place a hold request, or place a closed stack request for the item.
4 | If you are prompted to choose a type of request, click Closed Stack Request. |
5 | Click OK. |
Horizon displays the Place Closed Stack Request window:
7 | Click Request. |
Horizon displays a message telling you if your request is successful.
