Choosing Profile Options

You can choose these options for a profile:

Set up browse scoping. You can choose to have Information Portal display only the search results that belong to the location that is represented by the profile.
Remove stopwords from a search. If you have set up stopwords in Horizon, you can set up Information Portal to use your stopword settings. Stopwords are words (such as the articles “a” and “the”) that Horizon ignores or omits from keyword or browse searches.
Change the browse results display. You can change your browse results display so that two items display before the matching highlighted result.
Deactivate in-house holds. You can choose to deny a hold if the item is available locally.
Activate self-registration. You can let users register themselves for a temporary barcode.
Enable deduping. You can enable deduping for all keyword Advanced or Power searches. (For more information, see Deduping Results of Advanced and Power Searches.)
Choose the number of serials items to display per page. You can set the number of items you want to display per page when Information Portal returns results from a serials search.
Choose the maximum number of sorts. You can set the number of sorts that you want the profile to perform during a search.
Choose a default limit. You can choose to have a user’s search results display with a limit automatically applied.
Changing the display for My List. You can choose which My List display is used for a profile.

To choose profile options

1 Access the profile you want to change, or add a new one.
2 Click Profile Information.

The Administration tool displays the Profile Information page:

3 Update these fields to change the profile options:

Field

Action

Browse Scoping

Mark this box if you want users to be able to display searching results only from the location represented by this profile.

(If you want to speed up browse scoping in Information Portal, see Improving Browse Scoping Performance.)

Remove Stopwords from Search

Mark this box if you want Information Portal to use your Horizon stopword settings.

Stopwords are words that you want Information Portal to ignore or omit from keyword or browse searches. (For example, if you want to ignore articles, such as “a” or “the,” you can designate these words as stopwords.) (For instructions on setting up stopwords, see “StopWords” in the “Searching Setup” chapter of the Horizon System Administration Guide.)

Show Term in Third Position on Browse

Mark this box if you want browse lists to display two additional items before it displays the matching search result.

That way, even if a user enters an incorrect search term, the browse list may still show the search term that they wanted. (For example, if a user searches for “Herry Potter”, the browse list may still show “Harry Potter”.)

Disallow Internal Holds

Mark this box if you want to keep borrowers using this profile from placing holds on items that are on the shelf.

If you want to deny in-house holds, you must set up your internal IP addresses first. (For instructions, see Setting Up Internal IP Addresses.)

Allow Self Registration

Mark this box if you want to let borrowers self-register for a library barcode.

That way, if a borrower does not have a library barcode, he or she can register for a temporary barcode and use the library’s services.

If you want to let borrowers self-register, you must set up this feature. (For instructions, see Setting Up Borrower Self-Registration.)

Deduping Option

Choose the way in which Information Portal will use deduping for Advanced and Power searches.

(For more information on which option to choose, see Enabling Deduping.)

Items on Serial Display

Enter the number of items that you want to display per page when a user performs a search for a serials item.

Maximum Sorts

Enter the maximum number of sorts that this profile can perform during a search.

Default Limit

Choose the default limit that you want to apply to this profile.

(For example, you might want to do this if you want users at a certain location to see only a certain type of material (such as Young Adult) in a profile that you have set up for teenagers.”)

Allow Patrons to Remove the Default Limit

Mark this box if you want to allow patrons to be able to remove default limits from their searches.

By default, this option is unchecked.

My List Display

Choose the My List display that you want for this profile.

If you create a new display that you want to use for the users’ My List feature, you must assign it to the profile so that it will display in the user interface. (For example, if you create a My List display and add barcode numbers, or if you change a label such “Fines” to “Fines Due,” you can use this new display instead of the default display. For more information on creating or changing displays, see Customizing a Search Result Display.)

In addition, you can let different types of users have different privileges in My List. (For example, you could let your staff save as many lists as they want, but restrict the number of lists that other types of users can save. For more information, see Changing Borrower Types for My List.)

4 Click OK.

The Administration tool returns to the Edit Profile page.

5 When you finish making changes in Information Portal, restart the Application Server process (JBoss).
