When you installed Information Portal, you imported the borrower types (BTYPEs) that can access the My Account feature of Information Portal. (For information on My List, see “Using My List” in the online Information Portal User’s Guide that you can access within the searching interface. For more information on BTYPEs, see “Defining a Borrower Circulation Type [BTYPE]” in the “Preparing Horizon to Work with Borrower Records” section of the Horizon Circulation Setup Guide.) After installation, each of the BTYPEs in Information Portal have a default set of privileges when working in My List. The borrowers or staff members who are assigned to those BTYPEs can:
• | Save 20 lists in their account. |
• | Save 10 bib records in each of their lists. |
• | Keep the saved list on Information Portal for 90 days. |
You can change these default settings for one or all of your borrowers. (For example, you can increase the default number of bib records that most borrowers can save from 10 to 25.) If you do this, you must apply these new default settings to each borrower type individually.
You can change an individual borrower type to use settings other than the defaults. (For example, if you want only those users designated as Homebound to be able to keep their lists stored in My List indefinitely, you can set up the Homebound Borrower Type to have an indefinite duration.) You may want to set this up differently for specific types of borrowers, like “High School Students,” giving them only 120 days to store their lists or limiting the number of lists that they can have in My List to save space on the system.
You can also change the staff borrower types that are able to access Information Portal. These borrower types are set up on your Horizon database and can be imported into Information Portal as you need them. Depending on how you have defined these, the staff borrower types may be able to access the item records that are designated as “staff-only”. (For example, you may have a staff borrower type called “Catalogers” and only those members of your staff can access and change otherwise restricted item records.) You might want to do this to prevent assistant staff members and other staff from accessing MARC records or master item records.
If you add a new staff BTYPE in Horizon, you can import that BYPE into Information Portal to let the users in the BTYPE have access to My List.
