Creating a Chronology Pattern: An Example
These steps explain how to create a chronology pattern that displays as shown in this example:
Creating the above chronology involves these tasks:

To create a chronology pattern for Jan./Feb. 200x through Nov./Dec. 200x

Open a blank Edit Chronology Interpretation Strings window. |
(For instructions on opening the Edit Chronology Interpretation Strings window, see Setting Up Interpretation Codes.)

Enter a code that identifies the string in the Interp. Code field. (For example, you might enter “MonAbbr”.) |

Enter a description of the string in the Description field, such as “Months Abbreviated.” |

Enter this string in the String field: |

Click Close to create the chronology pattern. |

Open the Edit Chronology Pattern Codes window. (For instructions on opening the Edit Chronology Pattern Codes window, see Setting Up Interpretation Codes.) |
Here is an example of an Edit Chronology Pattern Codes window:

Enter “MMY” (month/month year) in the Chron. Code field to identify the chronology. |

Enter a two month abbreviated sequence followed by a year to show an example of how the chronology will display (for example, “Jul./Aug. 2002”). |
You are now ready to define the levels of the chronology pattern.

Enter “0” as the number of the first level (the month) in the Level field. |

Mark the Slash List radio button. |
|

Mark the Month calendar unit radio button. |
|

Enter in the Interpretation field the code for the interpretation string you created in step 3 in the Interp String field, or click Codes to the right of the Interpretation field to display the list of codes. |

Mark the appropriate Hemisphere radio button. |

Click New on the Chron. Parts group. |
Horizon displays the second group entry:

Enter “1” as the level in the Level field. |

Mark the Slash List radio button. |

Mark the Year, Calendar Unit radio button. |

Leave the remaining fields in the window blank. |
When prediction is set up for a title that uses the above chronology pattern, the fields from Chron. Pattern to End Date Type of the Edit Serials Prediction Table should look like this:
