If you have browse scoping turned on, you can enable a browse scoping update process so that Information Portal returns results more quickly. (For more information on turning on browse scoping, see Choosing Profile Options.)
Once a day, this update process tags certain records in all of your Horizon indexes for the browse scoping location. This speeds up browse scoping in Information Portal because Information Portal has indexed or “tagged” certain records so that it can find and display results more quickly; Information Portal creates a type of road map of the location of the records on your Horizon database.
If you enable the browse scoping update process, you can change the time of day that Information Portal tags (or indexes) those certain records. You can also specify the break row, or the number of records that Information Portal skips before tagging the location of (or indexing) a record. (For example, if the break row number is “5000,” then Information Portal indexes every 5000th record on your Horizon system during the update process.)

Break Rows |
If you want to change the number of records that Information Portal skips before tagging (or indexing) a record, enter the new number. (For example, if the break row number is “5000,” then Information Portal indexes every 5000th record on your Horizon system during the update process.) The default of 5000 is an optimal amount of records for Information Portal to skip before tagging a record. (For example, if you have Information Portal skip every 200 records, then the tagging process slows down and the index of records takes up more disk space. If you have Information Portal skip every 10,0000 records, then Information Portal may also slow down because it does not have enough records for an accurate road map.) |
Start Hour |
If you want to change the time at which Information Portal begins tagging (or indexing) records for the day, enter the number representing the hour for Information Portal to start. You can enter numbers 1 through 24. The numbers represent each hour in military time. (For example, you can enter “2” for 2:00 AM or “22” for 10:00 PM.) Note: SirsiDynix recommends that you set the start hour to a time at which you have slower activity on your library system. This is because the update process can take several minutes to complete. Also note that Information Portal actually starts the update process within ten minutes of the time you specify. This is because Information Portal performs its system checks every 10 minutes. So when the time to start the update process passes and Information Portal performs its system check, then Information Portal starts the update process. |
