Creating a Display MARC Map for a Tag that Is not Mapped

After you create a list of the tags that you want on each Community Resources record, you must create a MARC map for each tag that you want to use that is not on the list of mapped default tags. (For the list of default tags, see MARC Maps.) This way, Horizon can use the new tags on the Community Resources record.

This section explains how to create a display MARC map for a tag that is not mapped. However, you can do other tasks with any of the Community Resources MARC maps, such as creating a conditional MARC map. (For instructions on the different tasks and more information on MARC maps, see “MARC Maps” in the “General Setup” chapter of the System Administration Guide.)

To create a display MARC map for a tag that is not mapped

1 Open the marc_map view in the Table Editor.

Horizon displays the List MARC map window.

2 Do one of these options:
If you want to create a new MARC map from scratch, click New.
If you want to copy an existing MARC map and modify it, highlight the one you want and choose File, Copy Record.

Horizon displays the Edit MARC Map window:

3 In the Marc_map Code field, enter the code that identifies the MARC map.

Important: Use the MARC map coding convention of placing a “D” before the rest of the code to distinguish the display MARC map from the limit (L) and index MARC maps. (For example, you may want a MARC map that displays subject headings stored in bib records. You would assign the display MARC map a code such as “Dsubj”, where the “D” stands for “Display.”) Use this same convention for all display-only MARC maps.

4 In the Description field, enter a description of the MARC map.
5 Make sure the Search Limit box is not marked.

You cannot create limit MARC maps for Community Resources this way. You must create a separate MARC map with the “L” for limit options that you want to create.

6 Choose the appropriate Sort Filter option:
No Filter
Year (4 digits)
Numeric Value (decimal optional)
7 Do one of these options:
If you want to display tags in MARC maps as a single string instead of one line per tag, mark Do Run-on.

(For example, if you want your Bibliographic Detail window in the staff search windows to display all additional entries as a run-on line instead of displaying one entry per line, you can create a 7xx MARC map with the Do Run-on option marked.)

If you want to display tags in MARC maps as one line per tag, do not mark Do Run-on.
8 Click Page Down or resize the window to display the Extraction group:

9 In the Extraction group, enter this information for each tag in the MARC map:

Field

Action

Tag

Enter the tag referenced by the MARC map.

Part

Enter the subfields or positions of the tag.

Conditional Part

Enter which part (subfield or position) must contain the conditional value in order to be indexed or displayed.

Note: Entering conditions requires that you specify characters, such as the slash ( / ) before a tag or position, and so forth. (For an example of how a conditional character can be used, see “Example of a MARC Map with Conditionals” in the “General Setup” chapter of the System Administration Guide.)

Conditional Value

Enter the value that the conditional part must contain in order to be indexed or displayed.

First Tag: Prefix

Enter any constant string of characters that you want to appear before the first displayed tag.

(For example, if a display MARC map contains the 100 and 700 tags, you can enter “This is the first author:”.)

First Tag: Suffix

Enter any constant string of characters that you want to appear after the first displayed tag.

(For example, if a display MARC map contains the 100 and 700 tags, you can enter “This is a secondary author:”.)

Other Tags: Prefix

Enter any constant string of characters that you want to appear before other displayed tags.

(For example, if a display MARC map contains the 100 and 700 tags, you can enter “This is a secondary author:”.)

Other Tags: Suffix

Enter any constant string of characters that you want to appear after the other displayed tags.

10 Save your changes.
11 Continue with Checking that a MARC Map Displays in a Full Bib Display.
