Modifying a Borrower's Group Permissions

You can change the permissions that a member of a group has to manage other members' accounts. You can also change the permissions that other members have to manage the current member's account.

To modify a borrower's permissions within a group

1 Open the Family Group window to the group you want.

For more information, see Opening a Family Group.

Note: If the borrower doesn't yet belong to a group, you will be presented with the option to find or create a group. A borrower cannot belong to more than one group.

2 In the Family Group window, select the borrower whose permission you want to edit.
3 Choose Edit Permissions.

Here is an example of an Edit Borrower Permissions window:

Field

Action

Borrower Name

Lists the name of the borrower whose record you are currently editing.

Borrower Barcode

Lists the barcode number of the borrower whose record you are currently editing.

Group Leader

Select this option to be able to easily assign this borrower access to view or manage or view various functions for other members.

Group Permissions

Select who can perform actions for the borrower.

Only Me: Only the current borrower can access the corresponding functions.
Group Leaders: Only the current borrower and those members who are Group Leaders can access the corresponding functions.
Customize: Lets you select specific group members who can access the corresponding functions.

Important: For the Receive My Notifications action you can choose to not select the current borrower. This is helpful to reduce notification by not sending them to children or others who would not need or want them. However, you must select at least one group member.

You can assign permissions to these tasks:

Permission

Descriptions

Manage My Checkouts

Specified group members can view and renew the borrower's checked-out items when All Group Items Out is enabled in the Checkout window. For more information, see Checking Out an Item Normally and Renewing an Item During Checkout.

Manage My Requests

Specified group members can request items (see Requesting a Hold for a Borrower), view requested items (Viewing a Borrower’s Hold Requests), and edit holds (Editing a Hold Request) for the borrower.

Manage My Blocks

Specified group members can view the borrower's blocks in the Current Blocks window when Group Blocks is enabled. For more information, see Viewing Blocks in a Family Group.

Check Out/Pick Up My Requests

Specified group members can check out items for the borrower.

If the item is on hold for a group member, when the specified user's account is opened, a prompt alerts the staff user that the items the borrower requested have become available. The staff user can check the item out to the specified member and it will be charged to the borrower's account.

Manage My Borrower Account

Specified group members can view and modify account settings for the borrower through BLUEcloud PAC or SirsiDynix Enterprise.

Note: This permission will not be available until an upcoming version of Web Services for Horizon and Symphony.

Receive My Notifications

Specified group members receive notices, invoices, and reminders for the borrower. The borrower will not receive notifications if the Group Leaders is selected or Customize is selected and the borrower's name is not selected.

Horizon sends a separate notice, invoice, or reminder to recipient group members for each group member for whom they receive notifications.

4 In the Edit Borrower Permissions window, select who has permissions for each action.
5 To specify which group members have permission to manage actions for this user, do one of the following:
If Only Me or Group Leaders is selected, choose Customize for the action for which you want edit permissions.
If you want to edit a previously customized list (that is, Customize is already selected), choose the settings button ( ).

The Edit Permission Recipients window opens. Here is an example of an Edit Permission Recipients window:

Field

Action

Group Number

Uniquely identifies the family group.

Borrower Name

Lists the name of the borrower whose permissions you are modifying.

Permission

Lists the specific action for which you are selecting the group members to manage.

Available

Lists the group members who do not have permissions to manage the action.

Selected

Lists the group members who have permissions to manage the action.

Add All

Moves all of the members from the Available list to the Selected list.

Add Highlighted

Moves the highlighted group members from the Available list to the Selected list.

Remove Highlighted

Moves the highlighted group members in the Selected list to the Available list.

Remove All

Moves all of the group members from the Selected list to the Available list.

Important: You must select at least one group member for each action.

Note: The "Receive My Notifications" permission also lists the current borrower's name. This way you can remove the current borrower's name, which lets you ensure that borrowers such as children don't receive notifications.

6 When you have finished selecting group members to manage the action, choose OK.
7 When you have finished managing the permissions, choose Save.
8 Choose Close to return to the Family Group window.
