Deduping Overview

You can choose to enable deduping for all keyword Advanced or Power searches. You can also configure Information Portal so that users can choose to dedup their own Advanced or Power searches on a search-by-search basis. Deduping works for searches performed on only one local location as well as for searches on multiple locations and broadcast searches.

Here is an example of an Advanced Search page with deduping enabled on a search-by-search basis:

When deduping is enabled by either the user or the system, the top of the results page displays the locations being searched followed by the number of hits at each location. Here is an example:

When the user clicks on a title from the deduped results list, Information Portal displays a full bib record and lists how many records for the item each location has in its database. If the local location has a copy of the item, Information Portal lists that location first.

Information Portal also displays the bib details from that location’s copy in the full bib record. If there is no local holding, Information Portal displays bib details from the location that displays first in the list. Here is an example:

Next, the user clicks on the location from which he or she wants to check out the item, place a hold, or request the item. Information Portal then displays the full bib again, using the specified source’s holdings information, including availability:
