Adding or Changing a Sub-Category

If you chose to open another sub-category while creating another search category, then you must complete the information for the sub-category. Also, you can change any information for an existing sub-category.

To add or change a sub-category

1 Open your Information Portal Administration tool web site.
2 Click the Customize tab.
3 Click the Interface sub-tab.
4 Click the Search Categories option.

The Administration tool displays the Search Categories page.

5 Find the root search category with the sub-categories that you want to add or change.
6 Click Edit Sub-Categories next to the search category.

The Administration tool displays the Edit Sub-Categories page.

7 Do one or more of these options:

Add or change a sub-category in a lower level

1 Find the name of the sub-category that you want.
2 Click Edit Sub-Categories next to the sub-category you want.
3 Repeat steps 1 and 2 in this table as many times as necessary to get to the level of sub-categories that you want.
4 Complete the other tasks in this table, depending on whether you want to add or change a sub-category on this level.

Add a sub-category to this level

Click Add Search Category.

Change a sub-category on this level

1 Find the sub-category that you want.
2 Click the name of the search category that you want.
8 Complete or change these fields to add or change a sub-category:

Enter the title you want for the search category.

(For example, enter “Classical Literature”.)

Description

Enter a description for the search category.

(For example, enter what the search category lets users search for, such as “Search for classical book titles.”)

URL Type

Choose one of these URL types:

Open Sub-Categories. Choose this URL type if you want Information Portal to display another search category under this search category. Then skip to step 9 on page See "Click OK.".
Perform a Horizon Information Portal Search. Choose this URL type if you want Information Portal to perform an Information Portal search.
Open a Full URL. Choose this URL type if you want Information Portal to open a web page or web site outside of Information Portal.

URL

Do one of these options:

If you chose to perform an Information Portal search, enter the portion of the URL after the session ID for the search that you want to perform.

To do this, open a new browser window. Access your Information Portal searching web site. Perform the search that you want Information Portal to perform when users click on this search hyperlink. In the URL or address field of your browser window, find the session ID number for your search session. (This session ID is a number that comes after the “session=” variable.) Copy everything after the session ID number, including the first ampersand ( & ). Paste that portion of the URL in this URL field.

If you chose to open a full URL, enter the URL for the web site that you want Information Portal to open.

Image Path

If you want Information Portal to place an image next to this search category or search, enter the path for the image.

You can use images for a kid’s PAC or to help users understand the categories and searches by providing pictures or other visual clues.

Number of Columns

Choose the number of columns that you want the search categories and searches split into on the Information Portal Category search page.

(For example, if you choose two columns, Information Portal will split your search categories evenly between the search categories and searches into two columns.)

9 Click OK.

The Administration tool displays the Edit Sub-Categories page again.

10 If you chose to open sub-categories for the URL Type, repeat steps 7 through 9.
11 When you finish making changes in Information Portal, restart the Application Server process (JBoss).
