Checking In a Closed Stack Item

When a borrower returns a closed stack item, you need to check in the item. There are two ways you can check in a closed stack item:

If you let borrowers check out closed stack items, you need to check in the item using standard checkin procedures. That way, you can keep track of who used the item.
If you do not let borrowers check out closed stack items, you still need to check in the item using the In-house use checkin mode. That way, Horizon records the item as being used and changes the item’s status.

(For instructions on checking in items, see “Checking in an Item” in the “Checkout and Checkin” chapter of the Circulation Guide.)

When you check in the item using either method, the item’s status will change from “CSA” [Closed Stack] to “Shelving Cart” indicating that the item has been checked in but is not yet on the shelf. (Your system administrator determines how long an item uses the “Shelving Cart” status as part of library policy.) The closed stack item can be considered for closed stack requests again.

In addition to changing an item’s status, checking in a item also moves the item’s closed stack request to the closed stack history file.
