Deleting an Index

If you have an index that is not being used on your Information Portal searching pages, you can delete an index. (For example, if you assign an Item Barcode Search index to the Advanced search page and then find that no one is using it, you can delete it.) If you delete an index and you decide you want it back later, you have to re-import it from Horizon. (For instructions, see Importing an Index.)

(This task affects only Information Portal. It does not delete search options on your Horizon server.)

If you think you might want to use this index again, and want to keep it but not have it appear on any user search page, you can make it unavailable by removing it from the tabset instead of deleting it. (For more information, see Changing the Indexes within a Tabset.)

To delete an index

1 Open your Information Portal Administration tool web site.
2 Click the Setup tab.
3 Click the Libraries sub-tab.
4 Click the name of the Library.

The Administration tool displays the Edit Library page.

5 Click the Indexes option.
6 Find the index that you want to delete.
7 Click the Delete option next to that index.

(This task affects only Information Portal. It does not delete search options on your Horizon server.)

8 Click OK to confirm the deletion.

The Administration tool removes the index from the list of indexes.

Note: If you delete an index accidentally, you can re-import it from Horizon. You must then reassign it to any sub-tabs that you want to use it on. (For more information, see Importing an Index and Changing the Indexes within a Tabset.)

9 When you finish making changes in Information Portal, restart the Application Server process (JBoss).
