Installing Media Scheduling Software

After you have updated your Horizon tables and records with media-related information, you can make Media Scheduling available to your library staff and borrowers. To do this, you need to install Media Scheduling client software on each workstation from which you want to let borrowers or staff schedule media items.

Your workstations must be running Microsoft Windows 2000, XP Pro SP 2, or Vista operating systems.

If you are upgrading from a previous version of Media Scheduling, you may want to remove the older version of Media Scheduling software before you install the new version. To do this, use the Add/Remove Programs utility in your Windows Control Panel.

Before You Begin

Before you install Media Scheduling software, you need to make sure Sybase’s Open Client software or Microsoft SQL Native Client software is installed on every workstation where you want to use Media Scheduling. Open Client and SQL Server let Media Scheduling communicate with your Horizon SQL database that stores all your borrower and circulation records.

In addition, you must configure an ODBC source before using Media Scheduling.

This topic includes these sections:

To configure an ODBC source

1 Go to The Microsoft Windows Control Panel.
2 Go to Administrative Tools (in Classic View. For Category View, go to Performance and Maintenance).
3 Open the Data Sources (ODBC) tool.
4 Choose the System DSN tab.
5 Click the Add button.

The Create New Data Source wizard displays.

6 Select the appropriate ODBC driver: either Adaptive Server Enterprise 15.00.00.50 or a newer version or SQL Server Native Client 10.2007.100.1600.22 or a newer version.
7 Click Finish.

The Create a New Data Source to your driver wizard displays.

8 Type the appropriate information for connecting to your Horizon database server.
9 Click Next as necessary to enter additional connection details or click Finish now to add the connection.

To install Media Scheduling software

1 Close any open applications.
2 Insert the Media Scheduling CD into the CD-ROM drive of the workstation where you want to install Media Scheduling software.

Windows launches the Setup installation program

3 Click Install Media Scheduling.
4 If you haven’t installed the required version of Sybase’s Open Client software or Microsoft SQL Native Client software, click Third Party Products. Otherwise, skip to step 6.
5 Click the appropriate database connection client software to install see the Release Notes for specific information.

The software will automatically be installed for the Microsoft Clients. For the Sybase clients, you must do the following:

Click Next.
Select the language for the license agreement, read the license agreement, and choose the I agree to the terms of the Sybase license for the install location specified option. Click Next.
Type or browse for the Destination Directory for where to install the client. Click Next.
Select the type of setup. We recommend either the Full or Custom option. The Typical option does not install the needed ODBC drivers.

Please note that the Custom option will take you a screen where you need to select what to install, and then to a Summary screen. If you select the Custom option, make sure to select the ASE ODBC Driver as part of the installation.

The Typical and Full options take you directly to a Summary screen. Click Next.

Click Next and then Finish when the installation completes.

When the installation completes, the installer returns to the Third Party Products menu.

To return to the main install menu, click Back.

6 Click Media Scheduling 7.5.4.1.

The Media Scheduling InstallShield Wizard displays.

7 Click Next.

Setup displays the Software License Agreement dialog box.

8 Read the license agreement, then select I accept the terms in the license agreement.
9 Click Next to continue.

Setup displays the Destination Location dialog box:

By default, Setup installs the Media Scheduling program files in their own directory. If you want to add Media Scheduling to the Horizon Menu Manager or Navigator, you may find it easier to install Media Scheduling into the Horizon installation directory.

Note: If you already have other Horizon client software installed on this workstation, Setup may automatically copy the Media Scheduling program files into your existing Horizon directory without prompting you to choose an installation location.

10 If necessary, click Browse and choose a different destination folder.
11 Click Next to continue.

Setup displays the Setup Type dialog box.

12 Select either the Complete install, or a Custom install where you can select which parts of the program to install.
13 Click Next to continue.

If you chose the Custom install, the Custom Setup dialog box displays. Continue with the next step.

If you chose the Complete install, the Ready to Install the Program dialog box displays. Skip to step 15.

14 Select whether to include the help with the software. When you are done, click Next.

Setup displays the Ready to Install the Program dialog box:

15 Click Install to continue.

When the installation completes, the InstallShield Wizard Completed dialog box displays.

16 If you want to open Media Scheduling immediately after closing the install wizard, select Launch Media Scheduling.

Note: You must have already set up the data source driver and connection before using Media Scheduling. See “To configure an ODBC source” on page 2-29 for specific instructions.

17 Click Finish to complete the installation procedure and exit the Setup installation program.
