Enabling or Disabling Information Portal Features in Horizon

Some features that let users do library tasks in Information Portal depend on settings in both the Information Portal and the Horizon software to work properly. Here are some examples of features that you can enable or disable:

Keyword Index searching.
Making Library Hours display on the Information Portal Hours sub-tab.
Viewing other locations’ results on bib displays.

If these features currently work the way you want them to in the Horizon location from which you imported information into Information Portal, they should work in Information Portal with no changes, as long as you set up the corresponding Information Portal features correctly. If you want to make changes in the way these features work, or if you decide to enable or disable any of these features at any time, you must change the settings in both Horizon and Information Portal.

If you want to enable or disable any of these features in Information Portal, check this guide for related Information Portal tasks. Then use this table to make related changes in Horizon:

To enable or disable this feature in Information Portal

Make this change in Horizon

Let users search keyword indexes

Set up ProIndex and build your keyword indexes.

(For instructions, see “Setting Up a Keyword Index for Horizon Information Portal” in the “Indexing” chapter of the Horizon System Administration Guide.)

Displaying library hours

Set up your library’s schedule in Horizon.

(For instructions, see “Specifying Library Hours” in the “Library Locations” section of the “General Setup” chapter of the Horizon System Administration Guide.)

Other Locations’ results available on bib displays

Change the display level on secondary locations to “1” (one) if you want them to be searched in addition to the primary location when the Other Locations button is clicked.

(For instructions, see the “PAC Primary and Secondary Locations” section of the “Searching Setup” chapter of the Horizon System Administration Guide.)

Note: If all secondary locations are set to a display level of “0” (zero), the Other Locations button will not show up on the Information Portal full bib display.

Renewing items in My Account

Set up renewal parameters in Horizon.

(For instructions, see “Setting Up Renewal Options” in the Horizon Circulation Setup Guide.)

Adding a sort option

Add the new sort option in the word_index table on the Horizon database.

(For instructions, see “Creating the Index Definition” in the “Setting Up a Keyword Index for Horizon Information Portal” section in the “Searching Setup” chapter of the Horizon System Administration Guide.)

Displaying blocks

Mark the PAC Display box in every Block Type of the block_view to enable blocks to display in Information Portal.

(For instructions, see “Setting Up or Editing a Block Type” in the “Setting Up Blocks” section of the Horizon Circulation Setup Guide.)

Displaying other locations’ results on the Full Bib display

Specify each location that you want Information Portal to search as a secondary location in addition to the primary location when the Other Locations button is clicked. (The primary location is represented by the Information Portal profile being used.) To specify a secondary location, change the display level to “1” (one) if you want them to be searched.

(For instructions, see “PAC Primary and Secondary Locations” in the “Searching Setup” chapter of the Horizon System Administration Guide.)

Note: If there are no secondary locations specified in Horizon and all secondary locations are set to a display level of “0” (zero), the Other locations button will not display on the Information Portal Full Bib display.

Let Horizon treat words with apostrophes (such as “l’homme”) as two words for indexing and searching

Execute an SQL script.

(For instructions, see “Applying Indexing Changes for French Databases” in the “Indexing” chapter of the Horizon System Administration Guide.)

Let users search collation key indexes

Set up your collation key indexes.

(For instructions, see “Creating a Collation Key Index” in the “Indexing” chapter of the Horizon System Administration Guide.)

Note: You need to manually import the collation key indexes in to Information Portal and assign them unique universal IDs. (For instructions, see Importing an Index.)

Let users book items in advance

Set up Advanced Booking.

(For instructions, see “Setting Up Advanced Booking Requests” in the Horizon Circulation Setup Guide.)

Limit searches by any of your Horizon indexes (for example, date limiting)

Set up the index in Horizon.

(For instructions, see “Creating the Index Definition” in the “Setting Up a Keyword Index for Horizon Information Portal” section of the “Indexing” chapter of the Horizon System Administration Guide.)

Limiting searches using Horizon user-defined limits (types and operators) and Horizon pre-defined limits

Set up search limits.

(For instructions, see “Search Limits” in the “Searching Setup” chapter of the Horizon System Administration Guide.)

Let users self-register for library barcodes

Set up borrower registration.

(For instructions, see “Setting Up Borrower Self-Registration for Use with Information Portal” in the Horizon Circulation Setup Guide.)

Limiting searches by Horizon stopwords

Set up stopwords.

(For instructions, see “StopWords” in the “Searching Setup” chapter of the Horizon System Administration Guide.)

Using OCLC control numbers for deduping

Check to see if you have an OCLC indexing MARC map set up in Horizon. If you do not, create one.

(For instructions, see “MARC Maps” in the “General Setup” chapter of the Horizon System Administration Guide.)

Check to see if you have an OCLC control number MARC map set up in Information Portal. If you do not, create one.

(For instructions, see Customizing a Z39.50 MARC Map.)

Let users make hold requests

Mark the Allow PAC hold requests field in the location view for each location whose items you want to let users make hold requests on.

Note: If you let users make hold requests using Information Portal, you may need to check the way that you have set up circulation parameters 29, 34, and 4. The way that you organize locations, BTYPEs, or ITYPEs with similar circulation needs can affect the way Horizon handles user hold requests. (For more information, see “Setting Up or Editing a Circulation Parameter” and “Setting Up Hold Requests” in the Horizon Circulation Setup Guide.)

Let borrowers opt-in for SMS messaging

Set up an SMS sub-tab for the My Account tab.

For instructions, see “Enabling SMS Configuration in My Account” in the SMS Messaging Administration Guide.
