You work with elements in a display for a Z39.50 library in almost the same way that you work with elements in a display for your local libraries. However, you specify different things for an element in a Z39.50 display.
When you change an existing display or add a new one, you must be sure the display contains the information that you want. Each piece of information you specify in a display is called an "element." (For example, the title, author, publisher, and so forth are separate elements in a full bib display.)
Unlike a display for your regular searching, you can change an existing element. You can also delete an element from a display if you no longer need it.
Item and Copy displays contain elements with additional fields for displaying the item and copy information properly from the Z39.50 library database. Be sure you access these displays, make sure they have the information you want, then assign them to the proper result type.
Before You Begin
Before you do any tasks with elements in a display, you may want to copy the display you want to change. This way, you have a backup copy in case you need to start over. (For instructions on copying, see Adding or Accessing a Z39.50 Search Result Display.)
