Customizing a Z39.50 Universal ID

A universal ID is a one-to-five-letter acronym to represent one or more search indexes. The universal ID lets you match your search indexes with Z39.50 search indexes so that Information Portal can perform searches. If you assign a universal ID to a search index, Information Portal can more easily choose the appropriate index to search. (For example, “GW” is Information Portal’s Z39.50 universal ID for any search that performs a general keyword search.) (For more information on universal IDs, see Universal IDs.)

You can add alternate universal IDs or delete ones that you no longer want to use for an index.
