Adding a Result Type

If you have created any new displays, you must add them to a result type so that Information Portal knows when to display them. When you add a result type, you must be sure that it has at least a summary and full display assigned.

Before You Begin

If you want to add browse displays to a result type, you must be sure that you have unique and unassigned browse displays that you can assign to the result type. You cannot add the same browse display to several result types; the Administration tool does not let you do this. If you want to use the same browse display for several result types, then you can copy the browse display you want or add a new browse display and add the new browse display to the result type. (For more information, see Adding or Accessing a Search Result Display.)

To add a result type

1 Open your Information Portal Administration tool web site.
2 Click the Customize tab.
3 Click the Searching sub-tab.
4 Click the Result Types option.

The Administration tool displays the Result Type page:

5 Click Add Result Type.

The Administration tool displays the Edit Result Type page:

6 Complete these fields to add a result type:

Field

Action

Description

Enter a description for this result type.

(For example, enter “General Keyword”.)

Note: It may be helpful to enter the name of the search for the description.

Table Name

Choose the name of the Horizon table in which the search index is located.

(For more information, see the Horizon Table Structures e-Guide.)

Index Name

If you are setting up redirected searches, choose the search index that you want to use.

The Index Name list displays all of the indexes from all of the locations specified on your Horizon server. Therefore, you must be sure to choose the index for the location that you want. Information Portal uses this search index to perform a new search if you add a Browse redirected search and use this result type. (For more information, see Redirecting a Search.)

(For example, choose “Any Word(s)”.)

Important: This list of search indexes comes from your Horizon database, not from the Information Portal administration index list. Therefore, if you choose an index that has been added to your Horizon database after you installed Information Portal and added indexes, then you must add this index in Information Portal administration before you can use it. (For instructions, see Importing an Index.)

Default Browse Display

If you want to specify a browse display for this search, choose the browse display you want; otherwise, choose None.

Default Summary Display

Choose a summary display.

(For example, choose “Keyword Summary”.)

Note: Each result type must have a summary display.

Default Full Display

Choose a full display.

(For example, choose “Full Bib”.)

Note: Each result type must have a full display.

Item Display

If you want to specify an item display for this search, choose the item display you want; otherwise, choose None.

Copy Display

If you want to specify a copy display for this search, choose the copy display you want; otherwise, choose None.

Volume Display

If you want to specify a volume display for this search, choose the volume display you want; otherwise, choose None.

Summary Item Display

If you want to specify an item display that you want Information Portal to display on the Default Summary Display, choose the item display you want; otherwise, choose None.

Note: If you want to specify other information for this display, see Changing Your Library’s Horizon Connection Settings.

7 Click OK.

The Administration tool displays the Result Type page again. Your new result type is added to the list in alphabetical order of its result type description.

8 Add this result type to an index, if it is not already added. (For instructions, see Editing an Index.)
9 When you finish making changes in Information Portal, restart the Application Server process (JBoss).
