Updating a Questions and Answers Record

If changes occur in a question or answer or if you need to change incorrect information, you can update the Questions and Answers record.

To update a Questions and Answers record

1 Start a New Search.

To do this, press F2 or find the process in the Searching folder on the navigation bar.

2 Search for the Questions and Answers record that you want. (For instructions, see Viewing a Questions and Answers Record or the “Searching” chapter of the Horizon Basics Guide.)
3 Proceed with the search until Horizon displays either a Titles List window or the Bib Detail window.
4 Do one of these options:
If Horizon displays a Bib Detail window, continue with step 5.
If Horizon displays a Titles List window, choose the one that you want to update.

To update more than one question at a time, press ALT and click on each question that you want to update. If you choose more than one question from a Titles List window, Horizon sends all the records that you select to Cataloging.

5 Press F10 or choose Edit, Send to.

Horizon opens the Send To dialog box.

6 Double-click the process to which you want to send the record.
7 Do one of these options:

For non-authority-controlled tags

For authority-controlled tags

1 Click on the text in the subfield that you want to update.

Horizon highlights the subfield with the insertion cursor.

2 Update the text, including the take-action or purge date.
1 Double-click on an authority-controlled tag.

Horizon displays the authority record.

2 Enter the changes that you want to make in the appropriate tags.

Important: When you update an authority-controlled tag, it affects every bib record in your database that is attached to the authority-controlled tag that you update. Make sure your information is accurate before you update an authority-controlled tag.

(For more information on updating tags and subfields, see “Editing a Field in a MARC Record” in the “MARC Editing” chapter of the Cataloging Guide.)

8 Save your changes.
