Adding a Sub-Tab to a Tab

Once you add a tab to a tabset, you can add sub-tabs that display under the tab. Each sub-tab displays a different Information Portal page or a web page outside of Information Portal.

To add a sub-tab to a tab

1 Access the tabset to which you want to add a new sub-tab. (For instructions, see Adding or Changing a Tabset.)

The Administration tool displays the Edit Tabset page.

2 Click Edit Sub-Tabs.

Here is an example of the Edit Sub-Tabs page:

3 Click the tab to which you want to add a sub-tab.
4 Click Add Sub-Tab.

The Administration tool displays the Add Sub-Tab page:

5 Complete these fields to name the sub-tab and enter other information:

Field

Action

Name

Enter the name you want displayed on the sub-tab.

(For example, enter “Basic”.)

Note: If you want to wrap the tab’s text to the next line in the tab, enter a semicolon ( ; ) at the point at which you want to break the line. However, if you wrap the text for one tab in a tabset, you may want to wrap them all. This is because a tab with wrapped text is taller than a tab with unwrapped text.

Hover-Text

Enter the description that you want displayed in the ToolTip box when the mouse hovers over the sub-tab name. (For example, enter “Basic Search”.)

Enter URL

OR

XSL Template

Do one of these options:

If you want this sub-tab to display a web page outside of Information Portal, mark Enter URL; then, enter the complete URL.
If you want this sub-tab to display an Information Portal XSL template, mark XSL Template; then, choose a template from the drop-down list.

You must choose either XSL template or Enter URL; you cannot choose both.

Title

Enter the name that you want Information Portal to display in the tan bar on a search page. (For example, enter “Basic Search”.)

Description

Enter a detailed description about what clicking on this sub-tab will display or do, or what this sub-tab is for. (For example, enter “Enter a search term and click Go to search the library catalog”.)

Information Portal displays this description as instructions under the Title in the tan bar on a search page.

HTML Help File

Enter the name of the HTML help file that you want Information Portal to display. (For example, enter “basicsearch.htm”.)

If your library has created HTML help for this sub-tab, you can enter the file name so that Information Portal displays the help when users click the Help button. This is the default directory for the HTML help files:

directory where you installed Application Server software\jboss\server\default\deploy\hipres.war\help\eng

You must be sure to place your help file in this directory so that Information Portal can display the file.

Note: SirsiDynix does not support custom HTML help file functionality. Also, creating custom HTML help files requires proficiency in HTML.

Additional Parameters

Enter the search category group that you want to display. (For instructions, see Assigning a Search Category Group for Information Portal to Use.)

6 Click OK.

The Administration tool displays the Edit Sub-Tabs page:

7 Click Done.

The Administration tool displays the Edit Tabset page.

8 If you want to add another sub-tab, repeat steps 3 through 7; otherwise, continue with step 9:
9 If you added a new tabset, assign the tabset to the library profile for which you want to use it. (For instructions, see Changing the Tabset Assigned to a Profile.)
10 If necessary, assign the indexes that you want to use for the sub-tabs in the tabset. (For instructions, see Changing the Indexes within a Tabset.)

Assigning the indexes you want to a sub-tab lets you define which indexes Information Portal makes available on a sub-tab.

11 When you finish making changes in Information Portal, restart the Application Server process (JBoss).
