Defining the Rating Scale

Horizon requires you to use a rating scale of 1 through 10. However, you need to define how you are going to interpret the scale.

To define the rating scale

1 Decide which end of the rating scale means “did not like the item” and which end means “liked the item.”

If your view of the scale is “the more you like it, the higher the rating,” you would define the scale like this:

On the other hand, if your view of the scale is “the best items are number 1,” you would define the scale like this:

In either case, make sure you do not include “0” (zero) in your scale. You will enter “0” at the rating prompt if a borrower did not provide a rating.

2 Tell staff how the scale should be interpreted.
3 Tell borrowers how to use the rating scale. You can do this when you distribute items to them.
