Overview of the 5210 3M SelfCheck Machine

The appearance and features of your machine depend on the type of 3M SelfCheck machine you have. Here is a sample 3M SelfCheck machine and a description of each part:

Laser scanner. Reads barcodes on library cards and library items.
Light bar. Provides sufficient light to see what you are doing.
Numeric key pad. Lets borrowers enter their personal identification number (PIN), if required.
Detector. Desensitizes library items, prevents borrowers from desensitizing an item without first checking it out, and prevents borrowers from placing more than one item on the platform at a time.
Scanning area. Provides an area where barcodes can be scanned by the laser scanner.
Platform. Holds the library card and items you are checking out.
Receipt printer. Prints a receipt automatically when a transaction is done. (The receipt shows the title and due date of each item the borrower checked out or renewed.)
Screen. Shows how to place items on the platform and explains what the machine is doing, such as retrieving borrower information.
