You can add as many elements to a search result display as you want your Information Portal users to see (or as many as are available for the type of display). (An element is a field of information from a bib record that appears on a search result display, such as a title or an author. For example, you may have a summary display that has a title element and an author element.)
You can also change most of the information for an element in a Z39.50 display. (If you want to change the order of elements, see Changing the Order of the Elements in a Search Result Display.
If you want, you can even add an element for holdings or items on a display. This way, you can access item information for a title you find in a Z39.50 library. Here is a table to help you decide how to complete some of the fields when prompted in this task:

To add or change an element in a Z39.50 search result display
1 | Access the Z39.50 display that you want to change, or add a new one. For instructions, see Adding or Accessing a Z39.50 Search Result Display. |
2 | If you want to add a new element, click Add New Element; otherwise, continue with step 3. |
The Administration tool displays the Add Data Element page.
3 | In the Add Data Element or Edit Display page, complete or change these fields to add or change an element in most displays: |
Field |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Label |
Enter the name you want Information Portal to display for this element on the search result page. (For example, enter “Title”.) Here is an example of title and author elements with their label: Title: The Tempest |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Fixed Element Code |
Note: The fixed element codes that appear are different depending on whether you are completing item or bib information. If necessary, choose one of these fixed element codes:
A fixed element code changes the appearance of the text to set it off. (For example, all titles are bold.) Here is an example of title and author elements with their fixed element codes: The Tempest
If you do not specify a fixed element code, then Information Portal uses the Label you enter. (For more information, see “Label” in this table.) Note: Do not use these fixed element codes on elements other than the ones described here. |

MARC Map |
Choose the MARC map that contains the information you want displayed. |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Is Hidden |
If you want this element to be hidden, mark this box. For example, you may want to keep the information in this element for future or staff use, but do not currently want users to view this element on this display. |
4 | If you are working in an Item or Copy display, then you may need to complete these fields: |
Note: The fields that you complete for a Z39.50 Item or Copy display are determined by the Z39.50 server. The next four fields are just examples of the type of information that you may need to enter for item or copy information. (For more information on completing these fields, contact the Z39.50 library for which you are creating this display.)
Field |
Action |
Table Name |
Enter the name of the Horizon table from which the element's item or copy information comes. |
Column Name |
Enter the name of the Horizon column from which the element's item or copy information comes. |
Lookup Code |
If the element is for an item list and the element contains Z39.50 lookup code information, choose the Z39.50 lookup code. For more information, see |
Location |
If the element is for copy location, mark this box. This tells Information Portal which element represents the location so Information Portal can group copies by location. Note: You should mark only one element. |
5 | Click OK. |
The Administration tool displays the Edit Display page again, showing the added or changed elements.
6 | If you want to add or change more elements for this display, repeat steps 2 through 5; otherwise, click OK again. |
The Administration tool displays the Displays page again.
7 | Add this display to a result type, if it is not already added. For more information, see Adding a Z39.50 Result Type. |
8 | When you finish making changes in Information Portal, restart the Application Server process (JBoss). |
