Changing the Date and Time Formatting

You can change the way your date and time display to an Information Portal user. (For example, you may want to do this to include the day of the week as a part of the date, or seconds as part of the time.) In order to change the way that Information Portal displays the date and time, you must use the appropriate symbols and arrange them in the correct order. (For instructions on setting up this feature, see the Display Information area of the task Adding or Changing the Profile Information.)

Here is an example of the date and time displayed on the My Account page:

To complete Date Format and Time Format fields, you enter uppercase and lowercase letters that act as symbols for the information you want to display. Information Portal interprets these symbols, and then uses information from the current date and time on the user’s workstation to determine what exact date and time to display. (For example, the symbol “h” displays the current hour according to a 12 hour clock; the symbol “H” displays the current hour according to a 24 hour clock.)

This table lists the individual date and time symbols Information Portal uses, along with the meaning of each symbol, and an example of what displays when the symbol is used:

Since Information Portal uses letter symbols to represent date and time formats, you must put single quotation marks around any additional text that you want to include in the format.

If you want to include punctuation or other non-alphabetic characters, you can do so without entering single quotes. (For example, you can add a colon symbol “ : “ between the letters for the hour and the minute.)

Here are some examples of how you might decide to use these symbols in combination to change the date and time using the US Locale:
