Changing Your Library’s Horizon Connection Settings

You can change which datasource Information Portal uses to connect to Horizon. During the Information Portal installation process, a datasource was created to contain information about your Horizon database (such as the database name, the IP address, the user name, and password). If you move or replace your Horizon server, you must make sure that the Information Portal Library uses the correct datasource to connect to the Horizon server.

You can also control how users can interact with the Library. You can specify the person whom users can contact at the library via e-mail and whether users can place hold requests.

If you want to let users make advanced bookings on items that are housed in Closed Stack Access, you must set the Requests Allowed field to Local-Bib/Item Level. This affects all hold requests made through Information Portal. However, if you want to do so, you can use Horizon’s BTYPE settings to prevent hold requests. (For more information, see “Setting Up the Maximum Number of Requests for a BTYPE” in the “Setting Up Hold Requests” section of the Horizon Circulation Setup Guide.)

To change your Library’s Horizon connection settings

1 Access the Library Information page.
2 Scroll down to the Horizon Information and Connection Information sections:

3 Update these fields for connection information that lets Information Portal connect to your Horizon server:

Field

Action

Datasource Name

Enter the name of the Horizon datasource that you entered during the Application server software installation.

(For more information, see the Application Suite Installation and Upgrade Directory.)

Email Reply To

Enter the full e-mail address that you want to display as the “From” address in e-mail messages that users send from Information Portal (for example, when a user sends a booklist). The recipient can reply to this address.

This address can be no more than 30 characters. (For example, enter t.smith@hamilton.lib.)

Email Postmaster

Enter the name that you want to display as the “From” name in e-mail messages that users send from Information Portal (for example, when a user sends search results).

This name can be no more than 30 characters. (For example, enter “Hamilton County Library”.)

Requests Allowed

Choose one of these options to determine the kind of hold requests that users can place using Information Portal:

None. Users cannot place hold requests using Information Portal.
Local-Bib Level. Users can request an item and the hold request will be filled with the next available copy.
Local-Item Level. Users can request an item by a specific copy number. The hold request will be filled with only that copy.
Interlibrary Loan (ILL). Users can request an item and any participating partner library with an available copy can fill the hold request.

Important: Information Portal settings do not change your Horizon settings.

If you choose an Information Portal request level that gives users more privileges than they have in Horizon, Horizon restricts user hold request options to match its setting. If a hold request is placed in Information Portal that Horizon does not allow, Information Portal displays an illegal hold request message and does not place the hold.

If you choose an Information Portal hold request level that is more restrictive to your user than the setting in Horizon, Information Portal restricts user hold request options to match its setting.

(For more information on Horizon settings, see Enabling or Disabling Information Portal Features in Horizon.)

Note: If you want to set up and use advanced booking, be sure this field is set to Local-Bib/Item Level. (For more information on advanced booking, see “Setting Up Advanced Booking” in the Horizon Circulation Setup Guide.)

Maximum Hit Count

Enter the maximum number of results that you want Information Portal to return for a keyword search.

4 Click OK.

The Administration tool saves your changes for this Library.

5 When you finish making changes in Information Portal, restart the Application Server process (JBoss).
