You can let users follow hyperlinks to web sites, graphical images, or other information cataloged within an Information Portal search result. To do this, you must add an element for the Tag856 MARC map to a search result display. (The Tag856 MARC map is an Information Portal-specific MARC map that lets Information Portal display information in linkable tags, such as the 856 tag.)
If you want to, you can also customize how you want the hyperlink information displayed. (For more information, see Customizing Linkable Tag Display Options (Optional). If you want to display 856 tag image data on the right side of a full bib display or the horizontal display (in Reserve Bookroom), see also Setting Up an 856 Tag to Display on the Right.)
To add the element for the Tag856 MARC map to a search result display
1 | Access the display that you want to change, or add a new one. (For instructions, see Adding or Accessing a Search Result Display.) |
2 | Click Add New Element. |
The Administration tool displays the Add Data Element page:
3 | Complete these fields to add an element for the Tag856 MARC map to a display: |
Field |
Action |
Display Order |
If you do not want this element to display last in the list of elements on this display, enter the number for the order in which you want Information Portal to display this element. (For example, enter “3”.) By default, this field displays the number that makes this element display last in the list of elements. |
Label |
Enter the name you want Information Portal to display for this element on the search result page if there is no fixed element code. (For example, enter “Web Address”.) Here is an example of an 856 URL with its label: Web Address: http://www.SirsiDynix.com (For more information on the fixed element code, see “Fixed Element Code” in this table.) |
Fixed Element Code |
Choose None. A fixed element code changes the appearance of the text to set it off. In the case of an 856 tag’s URL, the default Tag856 MARC map in Horizon already includes formatting information for HTML anchors, so a fixed element code is not necessary. Important: If you create your own MARC map, be sure you set up the “Format” field to define how linkable tag information is displayed in Information Portal. (For more information, see Customizing Linkable Tag Display Options (Optional).) If you do not specify a fixed element code, then Information Portal uses the Label you enter. (For more information, see “Label” in this table.) |
Table Name |
Enter “bib”. |
Column Name |
Leave this field blank. |
Key Column Name |
Enter “bib#”. |
MARC Map |
Choose the Tag856 MARC map. |
Element Type |
Choose HTML. |
Is Hidden |
If you want this element to be hidden, mark this box. (For example, you may want to keep the information in this element for future or staff use, but do not currently want users to view this element on this display.) |
4 | Click OK. |
The Administration tool displays the Edit Display page again.
5 | If you want to add more elements to this display, repeat steps 2 through 4; otherwise, click OK again. |
The Administration tool displays the Displays page again.
6 | Add this display to a result type, if it is not already added. (For more information, see Adding a Result Type.) |
7 | When you finish making changes in Information Portal, restart the Application Server process (JBoss). |
