Customizing a Search Result Display
Search result displays determine how the results of a search look on an Information Portal searching page (for example, how many elements of information are on a summary display and what the title and author text looks like in Information Portal or what labels those elements may have). (An element is a field of information from a bib record that appears on a search result display, such as a title or an author. For example, you may have a summary display that has a title element and an author element.)
Here is an example of a summary display:
Here are the different types of search result displays delivered with Information Portal. You can add, change, or delete search result displays for these types:
•
Browse lists (author, title, subject, Reserve Bookroom searches, Community Resource searches, and so forth) |
•
Summary lists (keyword, Community Resource searches, and so forth) |
•
Full (full bibs and Community Resource full displays, such as events, organizations, news, and so forth) |
•
My List (titles that users save in the My List area of Information Portal from their own book list) |
Information Portal delivers default search result displays for most of these; however, your library may not want to use the default search result displays. You can change how these search results should display in Information Portal by adding a new display or changing an existing display.
When you add a new display or change an existing display, you must specify information about the elements that you want displayed. (For example, you may want the title, author, and publisher elements in a keyword summary display.)
You can specify these things about a search result display:
•
The elements that are on the display. |
•
The order in which Information Portal displays the elements on the display. |
However, you cannot specify the layout of the display; you cannot move elements around the display, change the display’s colors, and so forth.
