MARC Maps

One of the most important parts of a search index is the MARC map. A MARC map is a set of tags and subfields used to retrieve information stored in MARC records.

MARC maps perform several important roles in your Horizon system:

They control what is indexed and under what conditions it is indexed.
They control data display in Information Portal or staff search windows.
They define the criteria by which search result sets can be limited.

Community Resources comes with default MARC maps for indexing, display, and search limiting. (For more information on the default MARC maps, see MARC Maps. For more information on the default search options, their search indexes, and their MARC maps, see General Searches and Search Indexes.)
