Letting Users Request Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Items with RSS

If you use SirsiDynix’s Resource Sharing System (RSS), you can let users request items from the libraries in RSS through Information Portal. When a user does a search for an item, Information Portal sends the search request to your ILL system.

To let your users request items through interlibrary loan, you must first identify the location of your ILL system in Information Portal. You then set up the default home library code that you want Information Portal to use. Information Portal uses this information to send requests to your ILL system. Your ILL system can then respond to the request through whatever means you have set up for this. Depending on how your ILL system is set up, the user may be sent to an authentication screen on the ILL system. This will allow them to verify their personal information and confirm the request. However, in some cases, Information Portal may not display a response from the ILL system.

Before You Begin

You must set up your Library to allow ILL requests in the Requests Allowed field on the Library Information page. (For more information, see Changing Your Library’s Horizon Connection Settings.)
