Troubleshooting

This appendix lists some of the common troubleshooting situations you may encounter when setting up and using 3M SelfCheck with Horizon.

This table outlines possible solutions:

Problem

Solution

The 3M SelfCheck machine is not prompting for borrower PINs.

Check to see if your system administrator has specified verification in the Table Editor. In addition, check to see if the PIN Required setting is marked in the SelfCheck Configuration menu on the 3M SelfCheck machine.

Timeout messages continue to appear when you use the 3M SelfCheck machine.

The machine may be waiting too long to resend a request to Horizon. Check with your system administrator.

The 3M SelfCheck machine does not respond when items are placed on the platform.

Make sure the light on the 3M SelfCheck machine is turned on. Replace the bulb if it is burned out.

The graphics on the 3M SelfCheck screen show your library item barcodes in the wrong place.

Check your 3M vendor’s manual regarding barcode placement.

The receipt printer is out of paper.

Check your 3M vendor’s manual regarding the printer.

The 3M SelfCheck machine is not sensing multiple books.

Check your 3M vendor’s manual regarding machine maintenance.

You get the message, “#Incorrect Password” when you place a library card in the 3M SelfCheck library’s slot.

Check to make sure the 3M SelfCheck machine’s PIN setting matches the PIN setting in the Table Editor.

The 3M SelfCheck machine is unable to establish communication with the server.

Check to see if the telnet daemon is running. This lets the Windows NT workstation be a server for the 3M SelfCheck machine.
