Creating Headers

After you choose the information you want to import, the import format, and how you want to separate your borrower information, you need to create a header. The header is the template for creating your data file. In your header, you enter exactly what you want to include in the borrower records. Enter the columns from borrower tables that you chose in the format you chose, separated by the delimiters or fixed field widths that you chose. You can create the header as an ASCII text file using the text editor on your operating system.

Each header must contain a unique key. This may be one or more columns from the borrower table that contain unique information for each borrower.

A name is not a good unique key because it is a processed field, and it will not process properly with pre-existing records

(For table and column names, see Choosing Borrower Information. For a graphical representation of each format, see Syntax Diagrams for Borrower Import Formats

Headers are set up differently for the three formats.

If you are using S32 format, your header is the first line in your data file. (For more information, see Creating Data Files.) If you are using S41 or M41 format, save your header as a separate file.
