Changing zServer Pro Settings

You can change the settings for zServer Pro. (For example, you can choose how long you want zServer Pro to wait for a z-client to submit a query.)

To change zServer Pro settings

1 Access the Edit Z Server page of the zServer Pro Administration tool. (For instructions, see Accessing the zServer Pro Administration Tool.)
2 Complete these fields to set up zServer Pro connection and message handling:

Field

Action

Horizon Information Portal Library

Choose the name of the Information Portal Library that you want the zServer to use when responding to queries from a z-client.

(For example, choose “Aspen County Library”.)

MARC Record Format

Choose the MARC format of your bib records.

(For example, leave the default “MARC21” if your library is in the United States, or choose “UKMARC” if your library is in the United Kingdom.)

Group 0 Default Character Set

Choose the type of graphic set (G0) that you want for the first set of 128 characters of the MARC code page.

If your MARC format is UNIMARC, then the default “ASCII” (English) character set applies to most libraries.

(For example, if some of your MARC records are in Greek, you can choose “Greek”.)

Group 1 Default Character Set

Choose the type of graphic set (G1) that you want for the second set of 128 characters of the MARC code page.

The default character set of “ANSEL” (Latin 1 -Western European) applies to most libraries.

(For example, if some of your MARC records are in Hebrew, you can choose “Hebrew”.)

Encoding for non-MARC Record Data

Choose the format in which you want your library’s non-MARC information returned to the Z39.50 client.

(For example, choose “ANSI”.)

Non-MARC information includes any holdings information, search terms, browse lists, and so forth.

Port Number

If you want to use a port number other than the default, enter the new port number.

The default port number is 210.

Maximum Connections

If you want to set a number of maximum connections to your zServer other than the default, enter the maximum number of connections you want.

The default maximum number of connections is 500.

(For example, enter “250”.)

Session Timeout

If you want a session time-out other than the default, enter the new time-out (in seconds). The default time-out is 300 seconds.

(For example, enter “120” if you want a zServer session to time-out in two minutes.)

The session time-out is the amount of time the zServer must be inactive before it drops the connection.

Thread Priority

Choose the appropriate thread priority for your zServer. The default thread priority is 5. This is the appropriate number for most sites.

The thread priority determines how fast the zServer processes the messages from the Z39.50 client and sends back a response.

Enable ZServer

Choose this field to turn the ZServer on. This will enable libraries to search your server using Z39.50.

Enable Logging for Support?

Leave this setting turned off unless Customer Support instructs you to turn it on.

This is used to turn on logging in the event that you are having problems with zServer and Dynix is helping you troubleshoot.

3 Click OK.

zServer Pro saves your information, including the indexes available within the Library you chose.

4 Continue with Editing zServer Pro Indexes.
