You can set up zServer Pro using the zServer Pro Administration tool. This Administration tool is a user interface that automatically imports the available search indexes from the Information Portal Library. These search indexes are matched up with zServer Pro index standard search types called “use attributes.” When you match a standard use attribute to one of your indexes, this tells zServer Pro which index to use when returning information to a Z39.50 z-client conducting a standard search. (For example, if you want a z-client using attribute “#4 Title” to receive resource information from your search index “Title Word,” make sure this index is displayed next to the “#4 Title” attribute and leave the Is Scan box unmarked.)
For more information on the standards for the Z39.50 protocol, see the Library of Congress web site at http://www.loc.gov/z3950/agency.
The Administration tool automatically creates use attributes and maps them to the indexes that you have defined in the Information Portal Library that you choose. This is the Information Portal Library that you want zServer Pro to use to retrieve item information for an incoming z-client query.
You can also use the zServer Pro Administration tool to determine which MARC record format zServer Pro uses or how long you want zServer Pro to wait for a z-client to submit query for information. (For example, you can choose to have zServer Pro time-out within two minutes if it does not receive a Z39.50 query from the z-client.)
