Adding or Changing a Phrase, Adjacency, or Proximity Search Option

Usually, your list of search options contain these:

One phrase search option.
One adjacency search option.
As many proximity search options as you want.

Standard proximity search options are those within three words, five words, and ten words.

An additional search option for “None” or “No options” (or whatever wording you choose) so that users can choose not to use any search options that you add.

To add or change a phrase, adjacency, or proximity search option

1 Access the profile you want to change, or add a new one.
2 Click Adjacency and Proximity.

The Administration tool displays the Adjacency and Proximity page with this profile’s current phrase, adjacency, and proximity search options listed.

3 Do one of these options:

Click Add Adjacency or Proximity.

Change a phrase, adjacency, or proximity search option

Find the name of the search option you want and click on it.

The Administration tool displays the Edit Adjacency and Proximity page:

4 Do one or more of these options, depending on which type of search option you want to add:

To add this type of search option

Complete the fields like this

“None” or “No search option”

1 In the Description field, enter the description you want users to see.

(For example, enter “None” or “No search option”.)

2 In the Match Type field, choose No matching.
3 Leave the Match within words field blank.
4 Click OK.

Phrase

1 In the Description field, enter the description you want users to see.

(For example, enter “Whole phrase” or “Exactly match”.)

2 In the Match Type field, choose Exact.
3 Leave the Match within words field blank.
4 Click OK.

Adjacency

1 In the Description field, enter the description you want users to see.

(For example, enter “Words adjacent to each other” or “Terms within one word”.)

2 In the Match Type field, choose Proximity.
3 In the Match within words field, enter “1”.
4 Click OK.

Proximity

1 In the Description field, enter the description you want users to see.

(For example, enter “Terms within three words” or “Terms within five words”.)

2 In the Match Type field, choose Proximity.
3 In the Match within words field, enter the number of terms or words within which you want Information Portal to match search terms.

(For example, enter “3” or “5”.)

4 Click OK.
5 Repeat steps 3 and 4 for each search option that you want to add or change.
6 When you finish making changes in Information Portal, restart the Application Server process (JBoss).
