Enabling Deduping

You can enable deduping for all keyword Advanced or Power searches. You can also configure Information Portal so that users can choose to dedup their own Advanced or Power searches on a search-by-search basis. Deduping works for searches performed on only one local location as well as for searches on multiple locations and broadcast searches.

Constraints

Deduping applies to only exact match searches, such as keyword or ISBN searches. Information Portal does not remove duplicate results in browse searches.
Sorting and limiting are not a part of broadcast deduping. Users can sort and limit results from local sources, but any Z39.50 sources are not affected by these options.
If an item record contains none of the identifying numbers (such as the LCCN, ISSN, or ISBN) or if Information Portal cannot recognize an identifying number in the record, duplicate entries may display in the initial results list.
If you want Information Portal to use OCLC control numbers for deduping, you must do some additional setup. (For instructions, see Using OCLC Control Numbers for Deduping.)
Searches with deduping enabled may take longer than searches without deduping enabled. This depends on the speed of your connections, the sizes of the databases being searched, and the number of duplicate titles found.

To enable deduping

1 Access the profile you want to change, or add a new one.
2 Click Profile Information.

The Administration tool displays the Profile Information page:
