If you want to, you can create and perform an Information Portal quick search from a hyperlink in another web page—whether the web page is from your library’s web pages or from an external source, such as your abstracting or indexing partners. (For example, you may want to allow “hook-to-holdings” to your database for your third-party indexing or abstracting subscription service.) If you wanted to, you can also display just the full bib record for a particular title by clicking on a hyperlink in another web page. The advantage to using this method over search categories is that you can give these URLs to an external source or third-party service so that they can execute Information Portal searches from outside of Information Portal. (For more information on search categories, see Adding Search Categories.)
You can find the URL for the hyperlink you need in one of two ways:
• | By performing the search yourself in Information Portal, then altering its URL before you give it to a third-party service or use it yourself. |
• | By creating the URL from scratch. |
However, to use either of these methods for finding the URL, you must first understand the parts of the URL.
