Setting Up Use Attributes

A use attribute is the Z39.50 standard for specifying which index to use for a particular search. You set up use attributes by choosing an Information Portal index and result type for each use attribute.

The same use attribute may be specified twice: once for a keyword index and once for a corresponding list or authority index. (For example, you can assign use attribute 4 as both the Title Keyword index and the Title List index.)

To set up use attributes

1 Access the Edit Z Server page of the zServer Pro Administration tool. (For instructions, see Accessing the zServer Pro Administration Tool.)
2 Click Edit Z Server Indexes.

The Administration tool displays the Edit Z Server Indexes page:

3 Review the existing use attributes and the Information Portal indexes assigned to them.

Note: The Edit Z Server Indexes page displays the most commonly used use attributes. Dynix recommends that you add use attribute number 1017. This is the index that will be used if the index requested is not set up for your z-server. When you create this use attribute, assign it a general keyword or title keyword index.

4 If you want a use attribute that does not appear here, you can add one. (For instructions, see Adding a Use Attribute.)
5 If necessary, choose different Information Portal indexes for the Z39.50 use attributes.
6 If you choose an Information Portal index for a use attribute, you need to choose an appropriate result type from the drop-down list to the right of each index.
7 If you make the Language use attribute available, you need to choose an Information Portal user-defined limit from the drop-down list and then map your language codes. (For instructions on mapping language codes, see Mapping a Language Code.)
8 If you make the Material Type use attribute available, you need to choose an Information Portal user-defined limit from the drop-down list and then map your material types. (For instructions on mapping material types, see Mapping a Material Type.)
9 Click OK.

The Administration tool displays the Edit Z Server page.

10 Stop and restart the Application Server process (JBoss). (For instructions, see the appropriate Linux, UNIX, or Windows task for “Starting and Stopping the Application Server Process” in the Processes section in the Horizon Application Suite Installation and Upgrade Directory.)
