Reviewing the Borrower Log

The borrower log is a cumulative list of items that have been checked out to each Home Service borrower. For each item, the log shows the checkout date, author, title, and subject. It also shows the borrower’s rating (if any) for each item.

You can review the borrower log to see what items the borrower has already received and avoid choosing those items again. (If you happen to choose an item that a standard Home Service borrower received before, Horizon will tell you when you check out the item.) You can also review the ratings the borrower gave those items to understand the types of items a borrower enjoys.

The borrower log does not include institution borrowers, since the log is intended to track the opinions of individuals.

To review the borrower log

1 Do one of these options:
Start the Display Home Service Borrower Log process.

The default location of this process is the Home Service folder on the navigation bar.

To review the borrower log in Checkout, follow these steps:
Identify the Home Service borrower in Checkout.
Choose Borrower, Home Service.

Horizon opens the List Home Service Borrower Log window:

Important: The author, title, or subject columns may be blank, depending on the MARC maps you previously created for Home Service. (For more information, see MARC Maps.) Be aware that after you create a MARC map, the corresponding column will remain blank for items already in the log. Only items checked out after you create a MARC map will be affected.

2 If you want to, sort the report.
3 Review the items the borrower previously received. Also review the ratings the borrower gave those items in the rating column.

The ratings are on a scale of 1 through 10. (The rating “0” means a borrower did not provide a rating.) Your library decides which end of the scale means “liked the item” and which end means “did not like the item.” (For more information, see Ratings.)

4 If you want to, print the report.
