If you want to change the location, appearance, authentication method, or functionality of the searching environment for your Library, you can add a new search profile or change an existing one. (You can also set up one profile and copy its settings over to other profiles. You can copy all settings, or choose the specific settings that you want to copy. For instructions, see Managing Profile Settings.)
If you want to add a new profile that is similar to a profile that you are already using, you can copy that profile and then update it, as necessary.
Here are some examples of how you can use the search profiles:
• | You can change the search profile for each location to reflect unique characteristics of that location. |
• | You can limit the search results returned to only the location represented by that profile. |
• | You can have one searching environment that appeals to teenagers and another for adults. |
• | You can use the same sorting and limiting options for the two profiles, but change the tabset for one of the profiles to let younger users access different Information Portal pages than the adult users. |
• | You can also assign a different or more extensive selection of tabs and indexes, sorts, limits, and broadcast searches to another profile used by your staff. This lets you can give your staff functionality that is not available on your users’ profile. |
To access another profile from within the user interface, you can replace the current code in the URL with the new one. (For example, if you have a regular profile and one for teenagers, and you want to switch from one to the other, simply highlight the code portion of the URL in your browser and replace it with the desired profile’s code, such as “teen”. Information Portal will switch you to the Teens profile.)
