Using Horizon Information Portal, a borrower can search for and request closed stack items over the Internet. (For example, if a library keeps their outdated periodicals in a closed stack area, a borrower may be able to view them by making a closed stack request.)
This task explains how to request a closed stack item using a basic search in Information Portal. For more information on the kinds of searches you can use, see Information Portal’s online help.
Before you begin, if you have not already done so, make sure that your system administrator has imported staff borrower types in Horizon Information Portal. (For more information, see Importing Staff Borrower Types in Horizon Information Portal .)
To request a closed stack item using Horizon Information Portal
1 | Access Information Portal. |
To do this, enter the URL (Universal Resource Locator) for your library’s Information Portal web site. (For example, enter “http://www.centrallib.org” in your browser’s address field.)
2 | Click the Search tab. |
3 | Choose the search index that you want to use from the Search drop-down list. (For example, choose Title Words.) |
4 | Enter a word or phrase that you want to search by. (For example, enter “time”.) |
5 | Press Enter, or click Go to start your search. |
Information Portal searches the library database and returns a list of results based on the search criteria you entered.
6 | Find that item that you want to request. |
7 | Click Request Item. |
8 | If necessary, enter your user ID and PIN. |
If this location allows only hold requests, Horizon displays the Hold Request window; you will not be able to make a closed stack request. If this location allows regular hold requests and closed stack requests, you will be prompted to choose the kind of request you want to make.
If a bib record has items that are closed stack and non-closed stack (at any location within all the libraries, branches, and so forth), borrowers are told that they may check the shelves, place a hold request, or place a closed stack request for the item.
9 | If you are prompted to choose a type of request, choose Place a Closed Stack Request on this item. |
10 | Click OK. |
Information Portal displays the Closed Stack Request Confirmation window:
11 | If necessary, choose a pickup area from the drop-down list. |
If the drop-down list is disabled, you cannot choose a pickup location; you must go to the displayed pickup area.
12 | Click Request. |
Information Portal displays this message telling you if your request is successful:
13 | Click Return to Searching to return to your search results. |
Note: A borrower can see the status of any of their closed stack requests by accessing My Account in Horizon Information Portal.
