To begin the process, you review the Visit due report to see when borrowers are due to receive items. As that time approaches, you determine the types of items that are appropriate and enjoyable for each borrower by reviewing the borrower’s profile. (A borrower’s profile describes the borrower’s reading preferences, such as favorite topics, authors, and format of items.) You can also review the borrower log. (The borrower log is a cumulative list of items that have been checked out to each Home Service borrower.)
After you determine the types of items that are appropriate and enjoyable for the borrower, you can determine the specific titles you want and gather the items from shelves. You check out items following regular checkout procedures, with several exceptions: If the borrower is a standard Home Service borrower, Horizon checks the borrower log and tells you if the borrower previously received that item. Horizon also updates the borrower log as necessary and updates the visit date fields on the borrower record.
After you check out items to one or more borrowers, you may want to print issue slips for the borrowers. An issue slip is a list of checkout information about a Home Service borrower that helps you distribute and track the items. Then you distribute the items to borrowers by mail or direct delivery.
At some point after you distribute items to a borrower, you can retrieve them and check in the items at your library. You check in items following regular checkin procedures, with one exception: If the borrower is a standard Home Service borrower, and if you have activated the rating prompt, Horizon prompts you to enter the borrower’s rating for the item.
If you deliver items to borrowers, you may want to print the route list, which lists the borrowers on each route. The route list is useful for new drivers and for posting in the delivery vehicle.
