Mapping Searching Indexes

If you are using Digital Library or Consolidated Searching, you can set up Information Portal so that you can search Primary Source (SirsiDynix or Horizon) indexes and Digital Library or Consolidated Searching indexes at the same time.

Information Portal maps searching indexes by creating identical secondary universal IDs for the Primary Source and Digital Library or Consolidated Searching indexes being mapped to each other.

To search multiple indexes at the same time, you must map the Primary Source indexes to the Digital Library or Consolidating Searching indexes that most closely match the Primary Source index. When users search by a particular Primary Source index, Information Portal will also search any Digital Library or Consolidated Searching indexes mapped to the Primary Source index they searched by. This way, borrowers can run a broadcast search on other libraries at the same time that they run a search on their local library.

You must already have your Digital Library or Consolidated Searching library set up in order to map searching indexes.

For instructions on setting up a Digital Library or Consolidated Searching library, see the Digital Library and Information Portal Setup Guide or the Consolidated Searching System Administrator’s Guide.

To map searching indexes

1 Open your Information Portal Administration tool web site.
2 Click the Add-On tab.

Information Portal displays a list of all the add-on programs that you have set up.

3 Do one of these options:
If you want to map indexes for Digital Library, click Digital Library.
If you want to map indexes for Consolidated Searching, click Consolidated Searching.

Note: If Digital Library or Consolidated Searching are not listed, then you have not activated them. (For instructions, see See "Activating an Add-on Product".)

Information Portal displays the Digital Library or Consolidated Searching page.

4 Do one of these options:
If you want to map indexes for Digital Library, click Modify Digital Library Indexes.
If you want to map indexes for Consolidated Searching, click Modify Consolidated Searching Indexes.

Information Portal displays the Indexes page:

Information Portal automatically matches any Primary Source indexes to any Digital Library or Consolidated Searching indexes with the same universal ID.

(For example, if the “Author Keyword” Primary Source index and the “Author Keyword” Consolidated Searching index both had a universal ID of “AK”, Information Portal matches the indexes together.)

Information Portal also automatically matches any Primary Source with a secondary universal ID that corresponds to a matching Digital Library or Consolidated Searching index.

For example, if a Primary Source index has a universal ID of “AKW” and a secondary universal ID of “AK” and no Digital Library indexes have a matching universal ID of “AKW”, Information Portal matches it with a Digital Library index with a secondary universal ID of “AK.”

5 Choose the Digital Library or Consolidated Searching index from the drop-down list that you want to map to the Primary Source index.

Note: If you choose to map a Primary Source index to “None”, Information Portal will not search a Digital Library or Consolidated Searching index.

6 Click OK.
