Then, when the request is complete, Horizon Information Portal displays the pickup area and the time when the requested item will be available for the borrower to pick up.
Here is an example of how lead times might work in a library:
In this example, it takes 20 minutes to find the item in the closed stacks and take it to the 1st floor pickup area. Therefore, a 20 minute lead time should be defined for the 1st floor Circulation desk. It takes 5 more minutes to reach each additional floor. Therefore, a 25 minute lead is needed for the 2nd floor Circulation desk, and a 30 minute lead time is needed for the 3rd floor Reserve desk.
You need to set the lead time for all pickup areas. This means that you need to know how long it takes to get from one location to another within your library system. (For example, if your closed stack area is in a different building than your pickup areas, you should make sure your lead time includes the time it takes to travel from the closed stack area building to the building where the pickup area is.)
If a request is made that cannot be filled before the closed stack location closes, the lead time will continue when the library opens the next day. (For example, if a borrower makes a request at 4:50 and your closed stack location closes at 5:00, a 30 minute lead time does not allow the item to be delivered. Therefore, if the library opens at 8:00, the pick up time becomes 8:20 the next morning.)
Before you begin, if you have not already done so, do these tasks:
• | Create a separate closed stack location. (For instructions, see Creating a Closed Stack Location.) |
• | Create a pickup area. (For instructions, see Creating a Pickup Area .) |
To set up lead time for a pickup area
1 | If you are not already at the CSA Location form, do these steps to access that form. |
a | Start the CSA Location Administration process. |
The default location of this process is the Circulation\Circulation Control Menu folder on the navigation bar.
Horizon displays the CSA Location Administration grid.
b | In the left-most column, double-click the button next to the closed stack location that has a pickup area that you want to set up the lead time for. |
Horizon displays the CSA Location form:
2 | In the Lead Time field, enter the number of minutes it will take for library staff to find the requested closed stack item and deliver it to the selected pickup area. |
(For example, enter “20” to set a twenty minute lead time for the item to be taken from the closed stack area to the 1st floor Circulation desk.)
3 | Save your changes. |
