Planning the Stop Number Order for Borrowers

A stop number is a borrower’s position on a route (such as stop number 1, 2, and so on). When you assign a borrower record to a route, Horizon automatically assigns the borrower to the next sequential stop number on that route. (For example, Horizon assigns stop number “1” to the first borrower assigned to a route, “2” to the second borrower on a route, and so on.)

If you are going to mail items to Home Service borrowers, it may not matter what stop numbers are assigned to borrowers. But if you are going to deliver items to borrowers, you may want the stop numbers to reflect their geographical order on the route. (For example, you may want the first borrower on a route to have stop number 1, the second borrower on that route to have stop number 2, and so on.)

When you set up Home Service, and if you are ready to assign numerous borrower records to Home Service, you can save time by planning the stop number order you want for those borrowers, then assigning them to Home Service in that order. (As an alternative, you can assign borrower records to Home Service in random order, then manually change their stop numbers as necessary. For more information, see Changing a Borrower’s Stop Number.)

For example, suppose you want to assign borrowers to the North Provo route. Here is a sampling of three borrowers on that route and their geographical locations:

If you want the stop numbers for these borrowers to reflect their geographical order on the route, you need to assign Laura to Home Service first, then Dan, and then Erika.

This task is most useful when you set up Home Service for the first time and assign numerous borrower records to Home Service. In the future you will probably need to manually change the borrower’s stop number when you assign another borrower record to Home Service. (For instructions, see Changing a Borrower’s Stop Number.)

To plan the stop number order for borrowers

1 Make a list of all the borrowers you plan to assign to a Home Service route.
2 Determine the delivery sequence you want to follow.
3 Write the appropriate stop number beside each borrower in the list.
4 Follow your numbered order to assign the borrower records to Home Service.

(For instructions, see Assigning a New Borrower Record to Home Service and Assigning an Existing Borrower Record to Home Service.)
