Creating a Home Service BTYPE Record

If you want to create a Home Service BTYPE record that is not like an existing BTYPE record, you can create a new record. (For more information about BTYPES, see “Defining a Borrower Circulation Type (BTYPE)” in the Circulation Setup Guide.)

To create a Home Service BTYPE record

1 Open the btype view in the Table Editor.

Horizon opens the List Borrower Circulation Types window.

2 Click New.

Horizon displays the Edit Borrower Circulation Types window:

3 Complete these fields:

Field

Action

Borrower Type

Enter the code that identifies the borrower circulation type.

This code can be up to seven characters long. You link a borrower with a set of circulation rules by assigning this code to a borrower record.

(For example, enter “HStu” for Home Service student.)

Description

Enter a description for the BTYPE code.

This description should be unique for each group of borrowers that have separate circulation rules.

For example, enter “Home Service Student” as a description of the HStu type.

Address Check (days)

Enter the number of days between automatic verification of the borrower’s address during checkout.

Choose a period of time that ensures current addresses for borrowers but is not so frequent that these checks become a problem at the circulation desk. (For example, in an academic library, the addresses of students might need to be checked every term or semester, whereas the faculty might be checked only once every year.)

If you never want an address check for this BTYPE, enter “999” in this field. A value of “0” causes Horizon to prompt for an address check each time the borrower type is identified.

Expiration (days)

Enter the number of days to elapse before the registration expires for a borrower of this type.

When circulation staff identify a borrower whose registration has expired, Horizon prompts for renewal of the registration. If you do not want the renew registration prompt, enter “999” in this field. A value of “0” causes Horizon to prompt for a registration check each time the borrower type is identified.

Note: In the btype_expiration_date view you can specify an exact date when a borrower’s registration expires. (For example, in an academic library, the last day of the semester may be the exact date when a borrower’s registration expires.) This date overrides the number of days entered in the expiration column in the BTYPE table. (For more information about borrower expiration dates, see “Setting Up or Editing a BTYPE Expiration Date” in the “Defining a Borrower Circulation Type (BTYPE)” section of the Circulation Setup Guide.)

Max. Unpaid Fines

Enter the amount of fines that a borrower can owe before Horizon places a block message on the borrower’s record.

Max. Overdues

Enter the maximum number of items a borrower can have overdue.

Request Period (days)

Enter the number of days items requested by a borrower with this BTYPE remain in the request queue before Day End deletes the request.

Card Fee

If you charge a fee for library cards, enter the amount of the fee.

Sales Tax Exempt

Mark this field to exempt borrowers of this type from sales tax on fees.

Fee Notice Type

Mark the type of fee notice you want to send to borrowers of this type:

Normal fee notice. Horizon generates a normal notice when a borrower owes a fee or fine as part of the Day End activity and Notice Generation actions.
Numbered invoice. Horizon generates a custom invoice notice.

For more information about notices and invoices, see the “Defining Notices, Invoices and Reminders” section in the Circulation Setup Guide.

Max. Bookings

Enter the maximum bookings a borrower can have in the future.
