Adding a Z39.50 MARC Map

Information Portal delivers default MARC maps. If you want to add more MARC maps for Z39.50 libraries, you can add new ones.

To add a Z39.50 MARC map

1 Open your Information Portal Administration tool web site.
2 Click the Customize tab.
3 Click the Z39.50 sub-tab.
4 Click the MARC Map sub-option.

The Administration tool displays the MARC Map page.

5 Click Add a New MARC Map.

The Administration tool displays the Add MARC Map page.

6 In the Description field, enter the description for the MARC map.
7 Click OK.

The Administration tool displays the Edit MARC Map page:

8 Click Add Tag.

The Administration tool displays the Add Tag page:

9 Complete these fields:

Action

Tag Number

Enter the tag that you want to add to the Z39.50 MARC map.

(For example, if you want users who search this Z39.50 library in Information Portal to see author information for Z39.50 libraries, enter “100” for the author tag.)

Subfield

Enter all of the subfields on this tag that you want users to see.

(For example, if you want users who search this Z39.50 library in Information Portal to see the author’s personal name, enter “a”.)

Subfield Link

Enter the subfields that contain the URL for a hyperlink; otherwise, leave this field as the default “null”.

(For example, for an 856 tag, enter “u”.)

Format

Choose a MARC format from the drop-down list.

10 Click OK.

The Administration tool displays the Edit MARC Map page again with the new tag added to the bottom of the list.

11 If you want to add another tag, repeat steps 8 through 10; otherwise, click OK.

The Administration tool displays the MARC Map page again.

12 When you finish making changes in Information Portal, restart the Application Server process (JBoss).
