Creating a Closed Stack Location

You create a separate location for a closed stack area so that it can have different opening times and circulation rules than the library location where it is housed.

Before you begin, create a separate location that will be used only as a closed stack location. You need to set up the location record and complete all the fields you normally would for a location. (For instructions on setting up a location, see “Library Locations” in the “General Setup” chapter of the System Administration Guide.)

To create a closed stack location

1 Start the CSA Location Administration process.

The default location of this process is the Circulation\Circulation Control Menu folder on the navigation bar.

Horizon displays the CSA Location Administration grid:

2 Complete or update these fields:

In this field

Do this

CSA Location

Enter or choose the code for the closed stack location.

This should be the location that you created before you began this task.

Primary Location

Enter or choose the code for the location that houses the closed stack area.

Auto Fill Minutes

Do one of these options:

If you do not want requests to be automatically filled, leave this field empty.
If you want requests to be automatically filled, enter the number of minutes you want to elapse before a request is considered filled.

Include the time it will take for library staff to find the requested closed stack item and deliver it to the selected pickup area. (For example, enter “30” to set a thirty minute time limit before an item is automatically considered filled.)

Note: Filling requests automatically may not be appropriate for all libraries. When a request is filled automatically, you have no way of keeping track of your closed stack items.

(For example, a request will be considered filled even if the requested item cannot be found.)

Items that are found are not identified by barcode through Checkout or Checkin.

(For more information on automatically filling closed stack requests, see Filling a Closed Stack Request Automatically.)

History Duration

Enter the number of days that you want Horizon to keep closed stack requests in a closed stack history file before deleting them.

(For more information on the closed stack history file, see Reviewing the Closed Stack History File.)

3 Save your changes.
4 Create a pickup area for this closed stack location. (For instructions, see Creating a Pickup Area .)

Note: You must have at least one pickup area for each closed stack location you create.
