If necessary, you can edit an index. You can make the description more meaningful. You can change universal IDs within an index, and change the primary universal ID to make an index accessible to a remote library. (A universal ID is a unique alphanumeric code, no longer than five characters, that the system uses to determine which index to use for a certain type of search. For example, “GW” could be the universal ID for a General Keyword search.) If you want to use the universal ID of a particular index for a new one, you can change the first ID to something else. Then import the new index and assign the primary universal ID that originally belonged to the first index to the new one. (For more information on the default indexes and universal IDs that Information Portal uses, see Universal IDs.)
1 | Open your Information Portal Administration tool web site. |
2 | Click the Setup tab. |
3 | Click the Libraries sub-tab. |
4 | Click the name of your Library. |
The Administration tool displays the Edit Library page.
5 | Click the Indexes option. |
The Administration tool displays a list of all the indexes available for your Library:
Note: If the Index list does not display the index that you want to edit, you can import it from your Horizon database. (For instructions, see Importing an Index.)
6 | Click the description of the index that you want to edit. |
The Administration tool displays the Description and Primary Universal ID for this index:
7 | Change the text in these fields, as necessary: |

Enter the text that you want to display on the user search pages to describe this index. (For example, enter “Author Authority” for an Author Keyword index.) Note: The index label in the profile takes precedence over this description field. (For more information, see Changing the Indexes within a Tabset.) However, if you enter a clear description here, then you may not need to enter a label when you add indexes to the profile. |
Enter a unique alphanumeric designation, no longer than five characters. This ID identifies this index within Information Portal and to remote searching locations. |
8 | Click OK to save your changes for this index. |
The Administration tool returns to the Indexes page.
9 | Repeat steps 6 through 8 to edit additional indexes. |
10 | Click Done. |
11 | When you finish making changes in Information Portal, restart the Application Server process (JBoss). |
