Assigning Variables Files to a Profile

Variables are values in Information Portal’s searching pages that appear to be coded into the software (or static), such as text, images, fonts, and so forth. These are the types of variables that exist within Information Portal:

Strings. These are the static text strings in Information Portal searching pages (for example, the search entry box prompt on the Basic Search page).
Images. These are the static images in Information Portal searching pages (for example, the image that Information Portal displays for the Basic Search active and inactive tab).
Preferences. These are settings that you can turn on or off (for example, the link that lets users see summary detail on the Summary page in Information Portal.)
Other. These are miscellaneous things like fonts, font sizes, colors, and other visual settings (for example, the background color for tables on the Basic Search page).

If you change these code values through these types of variables, you must assign your changed variable files to the profile that you want your changes to display on. (For more information on changing variables, see Changing Variables.)

To assign variables files to a profile

1 Access the profile you want to change, or add a new one.
2 Click Variables Files.

The Administration tool displays the Variables Files page with this profile’s current variables files assignments listed:

When you click on the arrows at the right of the file names, any additional variable files of that type (including new ones that you made in Customize) will display in the list.

3 Choose the new files that you want to assign to each type of variable in this profile.
4 Click OK.

The Administration tool returns to the Edit Profile page.

5 When you finish making changes in Information Portal, restart the Application Server process (JBoss).
